![]() Some good size chinook's showed up for the May long weekend! Campbell River area has slowed down, but running across the strait of Georgia to Grants reef and the north tip of Texada has been worth it. Good numbers of chinook with a few over 20 pounds have been coming in from those area's! Closer to home,Bates beach(Kitty Coleman) has turned on! Monday (May20) had calm sea's and good fishing. We landed our largest yet for 2013 season at 26 pounds!Just a sample of whats to come for the summer! Anchovies and Gater back green hootchy's along with Army Truck cuttle fish hootchy's are the ticket! ![]() This past weeks weather has been incredible ,with temps in the mid twenty's and no wind. The salmon fishing has slowed a bit in numbers but the size of fish are getting bigger, with some in the twenty pound range hitting the dock! The Coho that have called Bates beach area home all winter are growing in size and spreading down past Comox.I caught many this past week up to four pounds! There is a good mix of medium herring and needle fish in the belly's of these salmon so most gear like 4" spoons,Hootchy's both cuttle fish and needle fish have been producing.I have been using anchovies with good success also. Mid may usually is the start time of the big push of chinook's in our area.Places like Campbell River Hump,Bates Beach(Kitty Coleman)and Sentry Shoals can produce good numbers of fish! ![]() Sean Fredrickson with a nice spring(may 3/13 Shelter Pt and the CR hump keep on producing some great chinook. There seems to be lots of needle fish around so I was using small 4" anchovies and glo/green needle fish hootchies, the chovies produced the best! Kitty Coleman hump has fished well the last few days for some nice chinook and small coho. Great weather and fresh fish!!! |
