It's mid August in the Northern Strait of Georgia and the Chinook fishing is great! Big numbers and big fish seem to be the "new normal" around the south end of Quadra Island. The last few hours of the ebb tide at the Hump & Red can to the lighthouse has been productive. Lots of herring are stacking up there so big Tomic plugs in colors 500 & 602 both traditional and UV models are killing it! Over to the Green can on the flood tide is the place to be. Plugs or rubber will get the job done. If the plugs seem to slow, I like to switch to a glow cuttlefish hootchy right on the bottom, this will get the bites going! West side of Grants reef has been good at times the last week. Lots of small fish to weed through there with some bigger fish in the mix. Most people fish the 200-260 ledge but this time of year its worth trying the shallows on top of the reef for Springs and Coho! Fishing the shallows can be a blast for the jig fisherman! Bates beach has been hit and miss this week. The bait seems to come and go from this area. If the bait is stacked up, good chance the fish will be to! September 1 our area opens up for 2 any size Chinook! Although the fishing usually slows down in September in general for Chinook. There is still some BIG guys swimming around looking for that plug! Tight lines! |
