Nice spring salmon from Kitty Coleman on May 9
This past weeks weather has been incredible ,with temps in the mid twenty's and no wind. The salmon fishing has slowed a bit in numbers but the size of fish are getting bigger, with some in the twenty pound range hitting the dock! The Coho that have called Bates beach area home all winter are growing in size and spreading down past Comox.I caught many this past week up to four pounds! There is a good mix of medium herring and needle fish in the belly's of these salmon so most gear like 4" spoons,Hootchy's both cuttle fish and needle fish have been producing.I have been using anchovies with good success also. Mid may usually is the start time of the big push of chinook's in our area.Places like Campbell River Hump,Bates Beach(Kitty Coleman)and Sentry Shoals can produce good numbers of fish!
