Every few years we get nice weather on the May long weekend, and this was one of them! The Bates beach hump is still producing a few nice chinooks, but it seems the big numbers have moved to were the herring are.I found huge amounts of herring in front of the Oyster river around the 200ft contour. We had some good action with fish up to 22 pounds caught on "Blood&Bones"hootchies and flasher and anchovie with a 6 foot leader. We went out after bottom fish sunday and ended up with some nice Red Snapper,Lingcod and rockfish. Also some crab and prawns to make a fine meal! A friend of mine got himself a 70 pound halibut off the Campbell River hump over the weekend, seems to be a few showing up!!!!I will be heading out to try halibut tomorrow!

Salmon fishing has really turned on around the Comox valley and Campbell river!!! This past weekend we had great fun landing many chinooks weighing into the teens.Lots of herring around still so bait and hootchys working well.
Crabbing remains excellent and prawn fishing has slowed a bit after the commercial opening, but we still got a big feed for my guests yesterday! |
